Scammers, Spammers, Hackers, Oh My!
There are a number of scams related to porn sites, cam sites and cam4 as well. We wanted to make you aware of some of them so you can avoid problems. We hope you will comment if you have issues or have figured out any other scams.
1. Cam4 Gold Passwords – there are sites that say you can get cam4 gold passwords that have been hacked. They advertise hacks, warez, plug-ins, password generators, etc. If they ask you to do a download, watch out. Many of these programs are setup to install viruses and do nothing else. It works because of your desire for free memberships.
Some sites make you pay for a recurring membership to get passwords to a number of adult sites. The passwords are hacked by members and may work until they are shut down by the adult sites. Remember that you are dealing with hackers, so watch what you click on and download.
2. Cam/Video Capture Software – there are sites that advertise software to capture cam shows. Again since you are downloading and running software, you need to be extremely careful. A number of these programs are setup only to distribute viruses. Capping without permission is also a copyright violation of the person on cam and Cam4.
3. Spammers – if you write your email address on a profile comment wall, expect that spammers will grab it, spam it and sell it to other spammers. The comment walls are public and available to anyone on the internet. We cannot stop people from ripping addresses off of them. All we can do is to tell you not to write your email address there. If you want someone to have your email address, use the messaging system.
4. Private Information – We hear from people worried that others know their personal information. This can only happen if you provide it. There is no reason to tell people, publicly or privately, your real name, your address, phone, where you work, etc. Also a good idea to watch what you say on cam. People talking on the phone, while on cam, have mentioned their phone numbers & addresses. People have heard this and used this to harass them.
5. URLs – We have also seen a number of profiles that provide a URL link for you to go to. Recently the majority of these advertise it as their live cam. These links then try to download a plug-in to your browser. These are viruses and we delete them as we find them and we do not recommend installing them. You can put your computer and personal information at risk. Make sure the security settings on your browser are set to “prompt” you before anything is installed, so you can cancel it. The best advice is not to install anything you are not familiar with. Make sure your computer has a firewall and up to date anti-virus software. You can get free versions below:

What can be done to identify such fakes… i recognised today as I had seen the same couple before.

The admin’s gave JUSTINXXX96 another chance. If he is caught asking for paypal or other issues, he will bebanned for good.

My only concern is members being scammed, and good performers no longer getting tipped because either members are apprehensive about tipping and having the performer log-off one they have the required 5000 or because the scammers have absorbed all the tokens the paying members have available
Were this to continue I can see many good performers leaving CAM4 which will then be left with only scammers and/or older performers, neither of which would be much of a draw for members to shell out $20.00/mo to join not to bother buying CAM4 tokens.
I have been told one CAM4 person that…. “if they bother you or you do not like them please refrain from going into their room”.
I am afraid “that” is not the point, the real POINT is either being missed.. or obtusely avoided
However I shall refrain from further reporting on this performer, the fact that members are being scammed to the tune of hundreds of $ per day over the course of a significant number of performances each day, be damned.

Since we last spoke, JUSTINXXX96 has been deleted and banned from Cam4. TIMOTHY1994 seems to have changed his ways and is doing shows that people like. Your reports do help us weed out the bad performers and we appreciate it.

He has/had been on using two accounts TIMOTHY1994 and the JUSTINXXX96. The performers are usually younger kids – but – the older, large chested muscled guy really is in control and was the one forcing the kids to perpetrate the scamming
You would really have to be watching this guy operate over extended periods to appreciate what he does.. I do realize the impracticalities involved in doing this..
In any case, I appreciate the fact that you really do do something about these people.

TIMOTHY1994 and JUSTINXXX96 are on final warnings for paypal. If they are caught doing anything wrong, they will be removed and banned. I will forward this info to the admins so they see the connection. Perhaps that will be enough for them to just ban them now instead of waiting. Appreciate the information.
CAM4 has a “LOT” of Token Scammers as well as those who ask for PayPal payment.
Once they reach their goal, in either case” they log off, or change what is offered.
The biggest problem is that CAM4 makes money from the tokens so and have no incentive to remove the scammers from their system. Their policy says they will, but a number of us have reported TIMOTH1994 and JUSTINXXX96 as well as OPTIMUS1992 and others for doing this.
Todate, these poeple remain alive and doing well on CAM4 to the tune of hundreds of dollars each night.
This makes it bad for legitimate performers as well as members who pay for the tokens. $100.00 to the performer costs members $200.00
As members who speak up in the chat to warn people are banned from the chat and there is no forum for members to discuss these issues there is little that can be done from that perspective

Scammers are not welcome at Cam4. People that ask for paypal are warned and they they continue are deleted. People that do fraud for tokens are also banned.
Timoth1994 is not a user on cam4; justinxxx96 has been warned about paypal, and optimus1992 has been deleted and banned from Cam4. When the scammers are banned, all tokens are returned to people that made the tips.
Please continue to report scammers. We appreciate the help in getting rid of these people.

Jeff, We noticed this problem as well. It took a couple of days to track down the problem because it was only happening in IE and with machines without good virus protection. We where able to track down the problem to one advertiser that had infected advertising code. We’ve removed this advertiser and shut down any advertisers using flash or iframes except a few trusted longtime advertisers.
Silverhand, you may have been infected with the virus. Contact kim@cam4.biz and she will tell you what you need to do, to get rid of it.
We did figure out the issue with the other evening, GG, someone had guessed the Mod’s password and entered as him creating the havoc. I’ve instructed that particular Mod to change the password so all should be ok now.. but I’m sure what you have stated happens too.
There is a scammer on your sight–using paypal section to steal money from people and log off without a show.
His name is cobbi88–he asks for a paypalcontributionand once received immediately logs off.

Most likely someone foolished the broadcaster by making an account
very close to the one of a legitimate known Mod, perhaps stealing also his avatar (if any). The same did happened to me a lot of times. Need to check carefully the names and/or the profiles, before give powers

something weird tonight admin. and apparently it’s happened in other rooms. https://www.cam4.com/snuggles1969 was broadcasting with two trusted mods. most of the people in the room know each other. suddenly everyone was getting banned or kicked including the mods. heavenlee said it happened the other night in her room too.
I heard. Sounds like someone got hold of a mod’s password and did this or the mod went insane. Not sure. I don’t believe we track what the mods do in the rooms. We leave that up to the broadcasters.
i just get a white screen and can not see any broadcasting anymore.

Thank you admin, unfortunately I have to report another issue. I dont know if its on my end, but I’ve talked to some (german) friends and they reported the same behaviour.
I only get blank videos, the chat connection is working fine tho.
I looked into it with some sniffer, for me it looks like it’s failing right after C->S RequestVideoStream Invoke call. The server just stops responding. It seems only the germans are having this problem since my US friends experience no problem.
I dont think it’s routing/dns problem since the connection is established in first place, any advice to fix this issue?

But there are few points I would like to pick up on and add.
Firstly, I think it might be wise for Cam4 as a business to make clear at the top of the “Paypal” section that the services offered in that section have nothing to do with Cam4.
Also calling the Cam4 page ” Paypal” isnt a good idea, Paypal can use this against you as a business. It might be better to called that page some thing like ” Private Shows”
If people choose to use Paypal and get their Paypal accounts killed because they are tryign to buy adult services with it, You as a business, have made it clear that you are are promoting the use of Paypal in any way.
