Masturbation – To “Go Dry” or “Go Wet”

Many men like to masturbate with some kind of lubrication and others don’t bother. One factor to consider is whether or not you’re circumcised. If you were never circumcised then you probably don’t need lubrication as the uncircumcised hood that covers the head of your penis protects it from being abraded by movements that cause friction.

If you’re circumcised, you can either “go dry” or “go wet.” In the dry technique, you either grip your penis and make the most of the mobility of the top layer of skin (most effective if the skin is somewhat loose), or you grip lightly and slide your fingers across the surface of your penis. However sometimes dry masturbation creates too much friction and makes the penis feel numb. For this reason, many guys prefer to masturbate “wet” — they use lubrication.

Lubrication

Perhaps the cheapest and most ancient form of lubricant that has ever been used for male masturbation is human spittle. Simply spit on your hands and rub them together to moisten the penis. The trouble with spit however is that it has to be reapplied often in order to be effective.

Oils are the most effective when it comes to lubricating the penis for masturbation. One of the safest and cheapest options is vegetable oil. It is safe and non-toxic. The same goes for Crisco vegetable oil or lard.

Mineral oil is another option and it doesn’t dry out. In fact most commercial lubricants have mineral oil as an ingredients. You can get mineral oil only in the digestive section of your supermarket or drug store.

Here is a breakdown of the various types of commercially sold lubricants that are available on the market.

  • Petroleum-based. Made from petroleum jelly, mineral oil or petrolatum, petroleum-based oils are the most commonly used type of lubrication. Different types include Vaseline products and baby oil. Petroleum-based lubes stain fabric and can be difficult to wash out so don’t use it inside your clothing.
  • Oil-based. Usually made from natural products, oil-based lubricants tend to stain fabrics and can be difficult to wash. Oil-based lubricants are great for anal sex, and male and female masturbation.
  • Water-based. Water-based lubricants typically contain deionized water, glycerin, propylene glycol and nontoxic preservatives. Although available in both flavored and unflavored mixtures, most unflavored lubes still taste slightly sweet. As they are safe and effective, water-based lubricants are the form of lube recommended most often by sex therapists.
  • Silicone-based. Silicone-based lubricants are similar to water-based lubricants with one notable difference: they are waterproof, making them ideal for underwater use. They also retain their lubricating properties better and longer than water-based lubricants, and are highly concentrated. However, silicone-based lubricants can harm sex toys made from silicone, so use a different lube if you use sex toys during your masturbation.

Stay away from using the following substances as lubricants as they can irritate the penis:

  • Butter – may contain bacteria
  • Heavily perfumed lotions or soaps
  • Vegetable oils to which have been added a spice or a herb
  • Pure essential oils
  • Heavily perfumed massage oils
  • Tiger Balm, Vicks Vapo-Rub and anything with camphor, eucalyptus or peppermint oil in it.

You want your penis to go ZING in a good way not burn because you put too much camphor on it!
