Students and Webcamming: Foxy_C and CurvyCara Special
Going through college can be expensive even if you’re lucky to live in a country where education is free, how do you fit in a job on top of class time and homework? Being a global company, we see a ton of diversity every day. Luckily, we have a great community that share their reasons for camming, and thoughts on the industry.
Foxy_C and CurvyCara are both cam girls, both students, but both have a totally different relationship with camming.
We all start in the same place: signing up. On CAM4, this is simple. You don’t have to look porn-esque, there’s no interview, and we don’t charge a fee. All you do is submit your ID to our secure CAM4 Bucks sign-up process. It took awhile for Foxy_C to gather the courage to hit broadcast (which is silly because she’s so beautiful) but really that could be the most difficult part of your sign up process.
For some people money is just an added benefit, not the main purpose. Foxy_C is studying Graphic Design in France, where education is free (lucky, right). Her take on making money from webcamming is a little different:
I didnt really thought about the money at the beginning, because I was not sure I could really earn something. I live in France, so college is free, and so camming helps me to pay my rent, and make a little extra money. But compared with what you can get in a “normal” job, I work less hours and make more money, so that’s really great for me.
But CurvyCara, a North American Psychology Undergrad has a different perspective on camming for money as a student:
“I think employment is an issue for almost everyone these days. I see a lot of younger women on cam, and can appreciate their decision to earn a living or pay for their education in a safe and flexible way.”
The perception of cam girls is money first, pleasure second. But both Foxy and Cara say otherwise. In Foxy’s case, it’s improved her self-esteem and helped her overcome shyness, giving her strength in a multitude of situations she didn’t have before. In Cara’s case, camming is tied right into her career goals:
“I love helping others create the relationships of their dreams! So, I hope to become a counsellor for those who may feel nervous about being judged by the mental health system – those who practice responsible nonmonogamy, hold non-traditional beliefs about gender roles, and who incorporate consensual power exchange into their relationships.”
Camming can be tiring, and you risk people discovering what you do and judging you for it, so why did neither of these girls consider a typical student job like retail or waitressing? Both girls agree that camming allows them to make their own schedule, putting schoolwork first and camming second. You never have to worry about being late, needing a day off, or calling in sick.
To Foxy, it’s no more tiring than any other job, adding “do you know an other job where you can lie on your bed most of the time?”
It is still tiring, even when you’re off cam. You still need to be chatting and answering fans, stay active on social media, and prepare shows. But for the freedom and hmm, occupational perks ;) it’s well worth the work.
A couple things remain the same for everyone: sexual exploration is linked to far more cerebral benefits than just making money, and sex is never actually about sex ;)
