New Improvements to CAM4: Sidebars Made Easy and a Directory Facelift
In case you haven’t noticed, last week we’ve rolled out some new improvements to the CAM4 website.
Directory Listing
The most visible change can be seen in the directory listings. We’ve moved to a vertical layout, which allows us to fit more columns at one time, and more performers to view on screen at one time. We’ve included new gender symbols to make your preferred shows even more visible. It’s easier to look at pictures than read words, right? Speaking of pictures, we’ve also included flag icons to signify where each performer is from. You could always ask @famouslexy about her Guess the Flag game! With less text, more icons, and a better layout, it’s even easier now for you to spot your favorite performers! |
Quick Links Navigating the site is a lot easier now with the Quick Links box on the sidebar, found on the top right corner of each page. With just one click you can broadcast, check your messages, manage your friends, and link your account to Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and more! |

Complete Your Profile Each CAM4 user has the option to fill out their personal profile. Every time you upload a new profile picture, add your sexual preference, or tell us what country you’re from, you’ll be a step closer to uniting with other exciting CAM4 members. I know this isn’t directly related with the subject, but I’m curious about a couple of things I’ve seen on the site. First, I wanted to know is it acceptable for a cam with both a guy and girl to be in the “Male” section?? I’ve seen a few cams do this very often, and it just seems as if they should really be in the “Couples” section. Also, I wanted to know, if there are any limitations when it comes to what a particular cam can charge tokens for? I’ve seen where some cams charge for sound, which is very much unfair to the viewers, considering all cams should technically have their sound enabled, if it is working.

The male section is for make. Males and females should broadcast under the couple section. They are disqualified from awards and will be changed if seen. There are no limitations to what can be asked for tokens other then it has to be legal.
I just checked and those lists are still not showing up on my profile. I am using Google Chrome, but I don’t think that would have anything do with it would it? Just wondering. I’ve used Chrome in the past but didn’t notice this problem until recently.

Hi. I wanted to let you all know about a problem I have seen as well. Over this past weekend, profiles stopped showing friends and favorites lists. I went to my own profile page and of course my friends and favorites are not showing up. I also double checked to make sure that the “show friends” and “show favorites” options were checked under my profile management tab, which they are. Is there any idea of when this will be fixed. I did send an email twice asking about this, but I have not yet received a response. I do know that the techs are busy from time to time, so it’s understandable. Thank you for your time.

Friends and favorites problem should be fixed.
Hi. I wanted to let you all know about a couple of problems that I’m experiencing with the site. First, I’m having problems adding people to my favorites. When I click the button, some kind of dialog box is supposed to appear and it doesn’t, and I can’t seem to get this to work. Second thing, when I go to the contact area, it is not recognizing my e-mail address and still saying “invalid e-mail”, so I am unable to contact Cam4 through this feature.
I wanted to find out if you might be aware of these issues and when they may be fixed. Thanks!

Yes, a bit after I explained the problem. Between the 18 hour period between our posts.
Now when browsing the recent pages. Pages seven and beyond aren’t working properly…..
When I click 7, it brings me to 7, but the 8 is grayed out. Click 9 and 10 is grayed out. 11.. 12 is grayed and so forth.

The links will just have to be changed to https://www.cam4.com/search/+%2bage%3a%5B25+to+25%5D/2 for page two of 25 to 25 year olders, for example; instead of https://www.cam4.com/featured/.
The same age searches (ex.: 25 to 25 year olders) aren’t working properly.
When you advance to page two and onward, it goes to the featured pages rather than page two and onward of the selected age.
I assume it was changed during the current maintenance of the site.
The age span searches are working properly: https://www.cam4.com/search/+%2bage%3a%5B20+to+29%5D/2 for page two of the 20 to 29 year olders.

For about two weeks, the Gold “Search” results have not been advancing to page 2, but just reloading page 1, and there doesn’t seem to be a way around it.
On July 8th, I received a reply from Support saying “Search is currently being worked on and will be back soon.” Since then, I’ve sent two notes asking about the status of it, but received no replies.
I can’t be the only member to ask about this (assuming it’s not on my side)…any info/ideas?

Are there any plans to add a performer’s age to the search results or ‘who’s online’? I know I can filter by age range on a search but that information doesn’t show on the results. At the moment it has their picture, name, country flag, sexual orientation and viewing details (if online) but no indication of age.

You can search by age in the search feature (gold members). But we are not going to add age to the directory listings. Does that answer your question? I’m not sure what search results and “who’s online” you are refering to.
What I meant was the “User in room” list…heh, of course I know what gender my friends are! At least, I hope so!

Not in the near future. It requires more bandwidth then the average user has so it would be great for some people but slow and horrible for others.
sorry..just found the solution tht my Adblock plus disabling the icons of flags and genders in my firefox..!
i cnt see any country flag or genders list in directory list..!its too difficult to identify the people who belong to my country[india]..better if u can bring back the text plz….!!!
Chat lagging has been a bit an issue, I have noticed that in my case and on my friend’s computer what helps with chat is when you just click 2 times left mouse button on the chat place(where you have to type the words), then it seems like chat unfreezes if it’s frozen, a few weeks ago it was the only way I could see the chat.. now it seems like it works much better but sometimes it freezes and that clicking really helps. it is weird, but it really helps lol, and on my friend’s computer as well.

that is odd. I will pass that on to the programmers to see if there is some significance to that.
Oh, I should add that the cam doesn’t only freeze when the host types, that’s just the most obvious time I experience it. If the host is not chatting, the cam will freeze randomly within 10 – 60 secs of starting. Refreshing, clearing temp files, disabling hardware acceleration, etc does not prevent the freezing.
I think a couple other comments have already mentioned it, but there is a problem with cams freezing and chat lagging. I am experiencing the problem on:
Win7 w/SP1 x64
IE9 and FF 4.0.1
Adobe Flash 10.2.159.1 and 10.3.181.14
Nvidia 270.61 and 275.27
The cam (it might be the whole room) will freeze when the the host types in chat. The lag in chat is random and will cause chat lines to queue up in random amounts and then spam all at once. This behavior does not exist on other sites using flash.
Is this a known issue? If it is, are there any updates on a solution? I know adobe seems to be having many problems with 10.3, but the problem persisted on the last release of 10.2. Should I try an even older version of 10.2 or maybe 10.1?

Some people experience issues with the cam freezing but it’s not a site side problem. It can relate to your configuration of software and hardware or an internet issue. If it’s a random problem, it’s usually an ISP issue. If it’s a constant problem, like not able to broadcast or crashing after a certain time, it’s usually a software/hardware issue. For example someone fixed a similar issue of freezing a few minutes into a broadcast by re-installing corrupted webcam drivers. Hard to say. I will forward your details to support to see if they have people with a similar configuration having similar problems.
as broadcasters can we block the area or country we live in from seeing us?

Yes, you can block up to three countries. People from those countries will not see your cam listed in the directory. You set this up in Profile [Manage] -> Block
Hi guys, I’m new to the site, and I just wanted to say that I definitely enjoy it here, it’s great. I have come across a rather strange issue though. I was viewing one of the cams and there was a connection error or it went offline. However, when it returned, I was not able to get back into the room and I missed out on a lot, which was disappointing. My computer is fully updated and every solution I tried failed. Is there anything I could possibly do to prevent getting locked out of a room???

Usually when you are disconnected you can get back in as soon as your connection is back if the performers are still online. If this continues to happen contact support.
Guys do you have any plans to revamp the friends lists / notifications? While a lot of people of asking for notifications for when their friends are favorite are broadcasting, how about when they’re just get online…I have certain people that I love to broadcast to, but the friends lists on this site is very buggy and I get false positives that they’re online all the time. For example I’ll check my friend’s list while watching a broadcast and notice someone is online. If I then go to someone else’s cam (or even start a broadcast) and check my friend’s list again, it’ll say they’re now offline. Sometimes it will even say they’re broadcasting when they’re not.
Another problem I notice is that people (including me) forget to log out of cam4, so it’ll still show us as being online even though we’re not even on the cam4 page…any plans to implement an “idle” status or something like that?
One other thing, are there any plans to add gender to the friend’s list (not the page, but the list you can view while viewing/broadcasting) it’s annoying to have to pick “look at user’s profile” every time I want to find out whether the person checking me out is male or female.
These are my only real gripes with cam4, otherwise keep up the good work!

We will be revamping the friends list and adding notifications. Most people’s sessions end when they stop broadcasting. But there are issues with some browsers and possibly some bug with the sessions not closing correctly. The programmers are trying to track that down.
We had no plans to add gender to the friends list. We assumed you know what gender your friends are. We will look into the possibility of that.

I am just curious about your new comment filter that disables the abilty to incorperate hyper links and also adds asteriks to words that might offend someone who should not be here anyway.
It would be nice for you to guys to give us a heads up on rules of comments as we can only post once per day and often find the post poofed away by the filter. just a non paying cam4 bandwidth waster’s opinion.

I’m only partly agree with the innovations, but it is okay so far.
Unfortunately, there is still the problem when I do show that the chat freezes for about 5 minutes if I have multiple (around 600) visitors.
Sometimes I have the feeling, the freeze of the chats will start when I write something, and definitely when several visitors in my chat are….from about 400!
If this is the case I can not chat with the other and everything is delayed.
This is very annoying.
And that’s the main thing that bothers me.
I know other performers they have the same problem.
Do you know anything about this error?
Before the improvements you have made this error was not there.

We do not have any reports of this problem. There are many performances with over 400 viewers that have no problems with chat. People’s chat or video can and does freeze but it’s usually because of issues with their internet connection.
I’m using Windows 7, Firefox 4.0.1. I use to see the everything in the broadcasters video/chat window. Now for some reason it doesn’t all fit. I have to scroll vertically and horizontally to read chat and see the video box.

Sorry but Cam4 has been ruined since you introduced the token option. All the females are now just ugly professional cam whores, ones you can see on every other cheap cam site. It’s exactly the same as LiveJasmin, cheap and nasty. We used to have different and interesting girls here now but thats a thing of the past. PLEASE change it back

FYI, since yesterday i can’t delete the unwanted comments from the wall. Clicking the red ‘X’ does returns a javascript(void)null exception, and the deletion doesn’t take effect.

Great changes, by the way could you explain a bit more about the new “block country” thing ? I have seen it launched since the new version as well. Does it completely prevent people from the selected country accesing your profile, as well as the selected country then can’t see you online, on featured list, and just totally can’t watch cams ? Or they still can see you broadcasting but just can’t access the profile.

When you block a country, anyone from that country will not see your webcam listed in the directory (under featured, female, male, etc.).
This is a feature suggested by performers who did not want to perform and risk someone that knew them watching the cam.

Hi admin, for gold members who can search the user directory, the search result seem incomplete as only the recently active and online user who fit the search parameters are displayed. accounts that have been inactive but still listed are not shown in the result. SOme old profiles that i have bookmarked are still listed/accessible on cam4 but during search, they can’t be found. Thanks.

Gold users can search by age, country, language, sex, orientation, etc. I just checked and it does seem to pull results wierd. I would have thought online cams would be listed first, ranked by number of viewers. I’ll check into that.
Looking at some new ways to filter and display users. More changes are in the works.
Several countries have virtually identical flags which makes it very confusing. Bring back the text, please.

We are looking how we can make a larger window for chat. Will pass on your ideas to the design team. Will also see about a viewer count in the broadcast window.
I like the new make over, clean and easy to navigate. But there are a couple of areas that might warrant some improvement.
A friends and favorites notifier, some thing that one could download to there task bar that informs them when their buddies and faves are online and broadcasting.
Also. I think it might be a good idea to re-vamp at the profile pages, they seem a bit boring, maybe let us customize them a little by adding a background image and change the colours a little.
Also when people add comments to profile pages I think it might be a neat idea to add a small thumbnail of the persons profile image next to their comment.
Anyway. just a few ideas. :p

Couldn’t agree more. A notifer and profile page update are in the plans. Profile page will probably be done soon. Thumb on the comments is a great idea as well. I’ll see if they can implement that one right away.
admin you need to set a system that alerts you via email or text message when your favorite broadcaster is broadcasting. you can include that on a premium Gold account. I am sure members will pay a little bit more to get alerts via email or text when their favorites are broadcasting. I mean we all cant spend 24/7 monitoring cam4. lol. that way say if I am playing games and I get an alert my favorite broadcasting I will quit on log into cam4 and watch.
I am also willing to work for Cam4 for free. lol.

I’m wondering about another change that has happened though. If you were viewing the user list tab, you used to see an asterisk appear on the chat tab to let you know someone had typed something. That feature seems to have disappeared now. That said, it would be nice if there was a way to display the chat and user list simultaneously. It would make it setting goals based on the number of viewers much easier, since you wouldn’t have to keep clicking back and forth if you want to follow the chat while still keeping track of the user list (all while trying to give a show at the same time of course).

other than the TAB in the [MANAGE] profile and the flashing blue bar, the user TAB in each cam already shows a simple list of your friend and favorite telling if they are online or broadcasting.
Loving the new visual improvements! However, around the same time, broadcasters started getting an echo. It’s terribly annoying; is there any work being done on that? Funny how it happened at the same time.

Techs say you have to disable any sound plug-ins till you find the one that is causing this issue. If it is a sound plug-in, it’s actually not needed to use with the site or any site for that matter as Firefox can reproduce sound without additional plug-ins.
Firefox/Chrome issues – Disable all plug-ins you have installed for these two browsers then try to access the site and see if the issue is gone. If so, one of those plug-ins is causing a conflict. To find out which one, re-enable them one at at a time until you have the problem again and you may have to either give up the plug-in entirely or simply disable it each time you log-in. The other possible solution would be to see if there is updated version of the plug-in available.
Please be aware that plug-in’s for these browsers are user submitted and while approved by Mozilla/Google that approval is for use with the browser and not necessarily every website out there. I am a die hard Firefox fan myself and there are websites where some of my plug-ins must be disabled for me to use the site. It’s simply impossible for anyone who writes code to guarantee compatibility with each and every plug-in or combination of plug-ins.
I already saw that.. The main Problem with the current Online Status Notification is that you often just dosen’t see it, the flashing is just to short or you are not on the pc while it shows you that person a or b is online right now.. So, i would really like to see a simple user list on the Right side of the screen, where i can always see if someone is online or not.
And as for the Payment.. I know that you can’t use Paypal here becuase of the Age restricion.. But there is an alternativ to it, which is called “Paysafecard” and which you can buy via Paypal. So, that means it would be possible thourgh it to pay here indirectly via Paypal, because you can pay the card as fast as using just paypal.
And of course you would also do the guys a favor with it who don’t need a CC or can’t get one.
I’m still waiting for other payment methods, because most guys just dosen’t have a damn Credit Card because they just don’t need it!
And of course.. I’m waiting for a Notication bar, that shows if my favorite perfomer is online or not.

In Profile [Manage] Friends & Favorites tab, it shows which of your favorites is online or not. There is also a flashing blue banner indicating when they come online.
