There’s much ado about men using sex toys. There’s apparently a double standard here: why is it cool for women but it’s not for men?

What’s a fleshlight?
In case you’ve under been under the rock all these years, the Fleshlight is a brand of sex toy that simulates a vagina or an arse. The original design was actually a 10-inch tube casing made of plastic with a soft sleeve inside. One basically fucks the tube and when you come, you can clean it out by unscrewing the whole toy and rinsing it with water.
These days though, the design and material have gone a long way. It’s now usually manufactured with polymers, like PVC and silicone. It makes for a softer and skin-like texture.
It’s also now known as a “fleshlight”- emphasis on the small caps. Yup, the original brand Fleshlight is still around but because other competitors came out with their own versions, the market got flooded with the same product and the people began to refer to all of them as fleshlights.
In recent years though, more men are using fleshlights. In a poll by a British tabloid, the number of British men using the fleshlight has more than doubled since 2018. That’s certainly good news for the sex toy industry.
Why are they becoming popular?
For Shubin, the inventor of the sex toy, it’s all about the convenience and the discreetness of the design. In an interview with Men’s Health, he said that “the design appeals to the user’s desires without making them pervy.”
He explained it further: “Guys are very visual, so you get stimulated by what you’re looking at. But all it’s doing is feeding the fantasy that’s in the brain…, So if you watch yourself going in and out, and the material pulls and moves the same way as the female anatomy would move, … together they feed the fantasy without interfering in any way.”
On Reddit, those who’ve used it generally like its usefulness. A member who goes by the name fergie232 says that “it feels good (and) much better than choking the chicken conventionally.”
User kairon156 agrees. “It feels amazing. Personally, I only use it once or twice a week for several reasons, one big reason is to give my 4skin time to roll back to normal for a while.”, he posted.
Is it good for your sexual health?
