Walking Topless on the Streets- Should it be Legal or Not?

Published 13/08/2014

Governments exist for the sole purpose of regulating society in ways that allow it to prosper best. When humans first started living as small collectives the tacit agreement was that we would all give up some of our freedoms in exchange for the peace, prosperity and enjoyment we could bring to each other in ways none of us could ever establish all on our own. The sticky bit of it all is where to draw the lines. How much freedom is too much, and at what point should it be overshadowed by other important values. Sex UK examines these legal quandaries for our readers and we welcome your feedback so be sure to keep sending in your email letters or posting your comments below the articles!

Being Topless on the street is definitely a freedom worth enjoying for many women who want to express their beauty, feel the warmth of the summer Sun on their skin and share in the same sorts of rights universally afforded to men of all ages. Still some cultures assign it a level of taboo that precludes open acceptance in the name of protecting a minority of people in society who believe nudity is somehow offensive.

The case for going topless:

We are all born naked and until only several hundred years ago we were all nude to a great degree for thousands of years during our existence. In fact, female breasts are an important part of the human ability to procreate and just like any other species we are hard-wired to find symmetrical breasts sexy. So by hiding them under clothing we are fighting against our own natural cue to extend our species. More to the point, see a set of big tits on the street has never harmed anyway, save the few people who may have experienced whiplash turning their heads so fast to take a longer look. If it were more common for women to be topless that novelty would wear off and it would soon be just as normal as any man who works without a shirt or walks to the store bare chested.

The case against going topless:

Old religious books seem to suggest nudity is somehow bad? Old people past their prime tend to believe people in their prime are far too sexy or willing to show off too much? A tiny fraction of the population who simply can’t control themselves tend to behave badly around topless women and require law enforcement to take action.

Ruling:

Going Topless Wins!

A minority of people being slightly offended by a natural act that has been normal for more than a thousand years simply should not be allowed to steamroll over the vast majority who are in favor of topless women everywhere. Couching their disagreement in religious dogma does nothing to make their points more persuasive and from any logical point of view if they prefer not to see topless women they should simple avert their own eyes.
