Openly Gay True Blood Actor Nelsan Ellis Dies at age 39
True Blood fans and co – stars are mourning the loss of actor Nelsan Ellis who brought the role of Lafayette Reynolds to life. Nelsan had been struggling for years having to deal with his drug and alcohol abuse, which unfortunately it ended his life.

This scene is perfect because it defeats all stereotypes that come with being gay. He stands up for what he believes in and is proud to be gay. That’s important to show on a mainstream television show so that viewers can be exposed to different sexualities
Unfortunately it was reported that Nelsan had to deal with homophobia at the work place as well. A co – star who will not be named, left the show because he didn’t want to participate in the gay storyline.
