Boy George In Trouble Over Tweets
As the LGBTQ community makes moves forward in acceptance there are still people out there in our own community who say things that show we have more work to do.
Singer Boy George who was also a member of Culture Club published a tweet stating: “Ok. ‘My computer got hacked’ is like ‘I’m bisexual’ or ‘I’m sniffing because I have allergies!’”
In 2015 the Journal of Bisexuality confirmed what bi people have been saying, the discrimination they face within the LGBTQ community is as real as the discrimination they face in the outside world.
Statistics found by Nicole Kristal say that 1 in 3 bisexual men have considered or attempted suicide. They are 50% more likely to live in poverty compared to gay men. Half of all bisexual men suffer from mood disorders and 1 in 3 have experienced rape, violence, or stalking by an intimate partner as opposed to 1 in 4 gay men.
Boy George himself seemed to be shocked at being called biphobic, he responded with a tweet: ‘One was not talking about actual bisexuals. I’m sorry if you struggled with my Tweet!’
