One in three LGBT people are harassed at work
So this survey came out and 1 in 3 LGBT people are harassed at work. Even though LGBT rights have improved, yes there is still more to do, new employees are twice as likely to hide their sexual orientation and often feel stressed by being open in their work place.
Gay and Lesbian Equality Network (GLEN) surveyed 590 full-time employees in Ireland, with over 30% reporting harassment in the workplace.
Two out of three employees who were out and happy were far more likely to be committed and do better work.
‘While this research shows the challenges faced by many lesbian, gay and bisexual employees, it also clearly shows why it makes good business sense to address these issues,’ said David Roche, Director at Diversity Champions.
’Good employers know that people people perform best when they can be themselves.’
The survey found employers had an advantage in attracting LGB candidates if they have a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion .
